User talk:Jlin
Hello Jlin and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Microsoft Expression
[edit]Hi, thanks for finishing off the renames of the Expression product pages! I didn't have a chance to finish the renames when I was working on it several hours ago. The changes look great. Warrens 22:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:RationalSoftware.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:RationalSoftware.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:35, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Lotus categories
[edit]If you look at the category listings for "IBM Software", in the "L" listings you will find "User:Jlin/Sandbox". If in your sandbox you'll put a ":" in front of "Category" you'll still be able to click, etc., but the entry will no longer be picked up for the category page. (you have the same problem for a few other categories).
Second. The "Lotus software" category entries should have replaced the "IBM software" categories instead of being added. "Lotus software" is a subcategory of "IBM software" so all Lotus entries are accessible from the "IBM software" category, and one of the goals of subcategories is to reduce the length of long category lists. What needs doing now is going through those Lotus articles with the "IBM software" category, checking that the article has a "Lotus software" category, and then deleting the "IBM software" category.
Or it may have been the intent that the "Lotus software" category be for pre-IBM acquisition Lotus software. I don't know, but either way it's is redundant for an article to be both in a category and a subcategory of that category. tooold 20:06, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- Good points. I didn't notice that Lotus software was a sub-category of IBM software. I'll go through and remove the redundant "IBM software" category tags. I've already removed my sandbox from the category. Jlin 17:33, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Windows Media Player 10.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Windows Media Player 10.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:53, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Windows Media Player 10.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Windows Media Player 10.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 00:18, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Lotus SmartCenter 9.8 with open drawers.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Lotus SmartCenter 9.8 with open drawers.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Better source request for File:Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 icon.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 icon.png. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Fleet Command (talk) 18:09, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Gionee. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page â Gionee. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Gionee â you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. COI Assistance for Silicon Valley Community Foundation
[edit]Dear User:Jlin: I work with Silicon Valley Community Foundation and am therefore in a COI relationship. I understand I can not make improvements to the page myself, so I am looking for some volunteers to help/provide feedback on some page updates. I am writing to inquire if you might find it a good use of your time to help improve the page. I see that you have made edits to other Bay Area pages. I have some edits currently in my sandbox User:ChauSVCF/sandbox. I look forward to any feedback or assistance you might provide. Thank you, ChauSVCF (talk) 21:56, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
